How Does Coaching Work?
Below is a general outline of the GameFace Coaching process. Please keep in mind that coaching is highly personalized to who you are and what you're up to. All coaching sessions are held in the strictest confidence.
1. Complimentary Sample Session — free 30-minute session
o To help you decide if coaching is the right fit for you, Kevin offers a complimentary 30-minute sample session over the phone (or in person if possible).
o We'll explore things like what do you want more of in your life, what are your dreams or simply just what's on your mind at the time.
o You'll walk away with some action to take immediately or a new perspective on your current situation to help move you forward!
2. Foundation Session — 2 hour session (typically in-person) to establish coaching relationship
o Once you decide to work with Kevin, we'll do what's called a foundation session, which sets the stage for our coaching relationship.
o Typically the foundation session is a face-to-face meeting that lasts for about 2 hours with some prep work done in advance.
o The purpose of this session is to get to know you better by exploring your values, future vision, goals, strengths and challenges. We will also begin the process of identifying what actions you need to take and what quality of life shifts need to occur for you to be balanced and fulfilled right now.
o We will also use this time to design our coaching alliance (e.g., define how we want to work together, discuss what you're looking for in a coach, identify the areas to focus our coaching on, agree on logistics, etc.).
o Finally, we will discuss some coaching terms and concepts to provide a common language for our relationship.
3. Regularly Scheduled Coaching Sessions — 30-minute weekly coaching calls for a commitment of typically 3 months
o We follow the foundation session with weekly phone sessions.
o Frequency of calls is typically four 30-minute calls per month with a three-month commitment.
o You'll use these calls to check in with Kevin, give status on your action plan, share current challenges and successes and deepen the learning.
o During the calls, you'll come with something specific to coach around. It could range from what you learned about the previous week's assignment to just sharing where you're at. Kevin will ask questions, hold accountability and guide the self-discovery process. Kevin will coach around whatever comes up in the moment while ensuring that your bigger picture agenda is always being held.
o You will usually have a powerful inquiry to reflect on and/or some type of committed action to take before the next call. These assignments serve to continue surfacing valuable insights and to keep your momentum going. Often times rich learning comes during the quality time spent pondering these questions in-between the coaching calls.
4. Completion — typically the final session, but could be used for a quarterly check-in
o Once you feel you've met all the goals you set out to do when you started coaching and you're well on your way to living the life you've always wanted, we'll make sure to bring a formal close to our coaching in a meaningful and ceremonial way.
o If we use it as a quarterly check-in, we'll review how far you've come and where you're going next. It's a great way to just step back and reflect on your progress.
o We'll conduct a final session where you'll review what you learned, your accomplishments and challenges, etc. and we'll identify ways for you to sustain success.
o Most importantly, we'll celebrate who you've become!!!
